Britney Spears resounding success at Mohegan Sun

Britney Spears performance Saturday night at Mohegan Sun was a resounding success. Britney Spears performs a second show at Mohegan Sun Sunday.

During a show that lasted an hour and 55 minutes, Spears spent just over an hour on stage, in between extended video clips, costume changes and circus-style sideshows.

The latter, at least, was in keeping with the theme of last year's album, "Circus," and Spears was supported by an extraordinary troupe of dancers, tumblers, jugglers, acrobats and martial artists, who had ample opportunity to demonstrate their talents.

Good as they were, they were the supporting cast in a show purporting to star Britney Spears. And even when Britney Spears was on stage, Britney was barely present. The show started with more than 20 minutes of circus stunts before Spears finally appeared.

Britney Spears was nearly always surrounded by a phalanx of dancers, who led Britney Spears into a cage on wheels to sing "Piece of Me"; zoomed across the stage on bicycles, with Britney riding double at one point, on "Boys"; and whirled around her on "If U Seek Amy."
