Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson be a proud mother of David Daniel Otunga Jr.

Now Jennifer Hudson has a new role — that of a proud mother.The birth was first reported by the Hollywood Reporter's Showbiz411.com.

Jennifer Hudson the 27-year-old Oscar winner gave birth to her first child, David Daniel Otunga Jr., on Monday, according to her publicist, Lisa Kasteler of WKT Public Relations. He is named after her fiance, David Otunga. The baby weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces.

"The baby is beautiful and perfect," says Hudson's publicist Lisa Kasteler. "His parents are ecstatic." Jennifer Hudson, who is also a Grammy-winning singer, had not confirmed Jennifer Hudson was expecting before announcing news of the birth.

The entertainer suffered a tragic blow last fall when her mother, brother and nephew were slain in her native Chicago. Her sister's estranged husband is charged with the killings.

Jennifer Hudson, who gained fame first as a top contender on "American Idol," won an Academy Award for best supporting actress for her portrayal of Effie in "Dreamgirls" in 2007. Earlier this year, Jennifer Hudson won a Grammy for best R&B album for her self-titled debut CD.

The actress and singer who is engaged to lawyer turned wrestler David Otunga was joined by close friends and family for a baby shower in Chicago at the weekend, despite previously denying Jennifer Hudson was expecting her first child.

Actress Felicia Fields, a long time friend of the Dreamgirls star said: "It was a baby shower, a quiet gathering of friends and mostly family. They're really trying to keep it kind of quiet. It was a nice time that we had."

Although Felicia has refused to say when the baby is due, the Chicago Sun Times newspaper reports Jennifer Hudson has just two months left before Jennifer Hudson gives birth.

When asked if Jennifer had received blue or pink gifts, Felicia told the Chicago Tribune newspaper: "They don't know the gender. More yellow."
