It falls on the day of full moon, Poornima a month Shaka Samvat Ashadh, Indian national calendar, Hindu calendar. Traditionally, the festival celebrated by Buddhists in honor of Lord Buddha, who gave his first sermon on this day in Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh, India.
